The poem reads:

My stomach has been rolling

like the sea since you said

that you were leaving

and the seagulls are

less like birds

more like sharks

picking at what’s left

of my heart

and I think I might

be sick because this time

I really don’t think you’re

coming back

the waves are slightly

less beautiful

the further they are

from shore

If I wait long enough

stand with my toes in the water

maybe those waves that seem

so far away

maybe they’ll finally reach me
